A (new!) question about garbled forum sig chars & Zend
I've been told on these forums that Zend causes those crap garbled (additional) characters in things like forum signatures when you go over so many letters for your signature, or your personal HTML block, etc etc.. in the SQL database.
I was also told that turning Zend off solves these problems. Unfortunately, the hosting's support team for the Nuke site in question say (and I quote),
"Zend cannot be turned off.
Without zend the server would be dead slow."
SURELY that's not true! Ok so it's shared hosting (I think)... But Zend really doesn't make THAT much of a difference does it? It'd only be a couple of seconds at the most in terms of file times, and the bandwidth used is still virtually the same =/
OK... to the main part of my question: are there any alternative ways to stop these garbled characters from being inserted to the SQL database that can be achieved without disabling Zend on the server? (as this last bit's impossible) If there is, and someone suggests something to me which works, I'll <3 them forever.
Cheers in advance, my last bunch of answers and help was really in-depth and useful, so I'm expecting the same high standards from this post

I know very little about zend and only posted previously, info that I came across on another board, however I just saw this

Marvellou stuff, looks very promising... I'm going to have to leave this until the weekend to try out, as it's going to require a phpnuke update first... and I have to have the time to fix stuff if it goes wrong (which it invariably will, thanks to the stupid arse who bodged this current installation together).
In the meantime, I'm going to go around gathering patches
Thnks for your input so far... Fingers crossed until the weekend
