Site size comparison's
Hi guys, I couldn't see a "general nuke" related area (may need glasses though!

)
This is not a "blow your trumpet" kind of post, before you all start :p
I've got a nuke based site running a modified 6.9 with sentinel and admin secure (you wouldn't believe the amount of times the two have saved the site- into triple figures)
Anyway, the service I appear to be getting with my current host feels a little.... "lax" shall we say. The server is now coming under DDOS attacks frequently, and more often than not, I can't physically get onto the site for one reason or other.
They claim (the current hosts) it is the nuke system and limitations, and that that it doesn't cope very well with larger volumes of traffic......
There is no downloads section enabled, mainly news, forum and gallery.
Registered users is over the 2,400 mark; average page views per day is now between 6,000 and 12,000- depending upon if you can access the server or not
Bandwidth (remember no downloads) is now around the 12Gb/ month
Over 2.5 milllion page views since end of January 2003
what I'm after, if possible, is something to compare it to. I imagine there are LOTS of sites (possibly nuke support sites) that have HUGE amounts of users/ traffic/ etc- but no real issue in delivering content. Anybody got any ideas?
I'm more in fravour now of moving hosts. I'm paid up and tied in until the end of January 2005 with my current host, but due to the way things are moving, I may cut my losses and run.
Any thoughts? Any recommendations for reliable hosts? I can't stretch to the dedicated server route- like most users of this site (probable) you do your site "for the love of it".
Thanks for any feedback you can give- as alawys, it's appreciated.

This site is doing around 200,000 paghits per month with around the 20Gb mark (inlcuding downloads) and we have 2,100+ members no we dont have any trouble bar the odd hosting issue that usually doesnt have the least thing to do with us.
I know that somethings on PHP-Nuke sites are very demanding on the servers but in general PHP-Nuke sites are not over demanding.
Sounds like you might just have a dodgy host.
Any host that tells you nuke sites can't cope with traffic is talking waffle.

Both of those are 2-3 million views a month.
Regarding hosting, you wouldn't require a dedicated server for your usage, we just run this site on standard shared hosting.
Bit off the topic but I just visited your audifans site to be greeted with

You have attempted to enter this site using a proxy.
This site does not allow proxy connections. Below is what we can tell about your connection.

Just like to say that this means you're blocking anyone using freeserve/wannadoo and thats a helluva lot of people.
cheers for the heads up, Dar. it's the latest version of Sentinel and it's got some new bits I've not used before.....
I've disabled the proxy bit.
An update- I updated with chatservs latest patched distro of 6.9, added the latest version of Sentinel and not added/ put in some mods- admin secure, random photo blocks, etc.- the site looks like it is literally off on a flyer at the minute. I'm going to add stuff slwoly and watch if it impacts on performance. A nuke site with no security= no nuke site......
