PHP-Nuke Newbie
Forum module - topics in forum:
PHP-Nuke Newbie - Complete phpnuke newbie? want to ask a question before installing? or have installed and are now confused? this is the place.
Advice please
Ok, I'm after some expert advice and I'm sure you guys can help.
I currently have a website running at
www.simaviatorsuk.org but I'm not happy with the current upload system we have. Users are having to FTP up and I don't feel that that is ideal.
I can't seem to find any decent systems for basic PHP and there are some other blocks that I would like to add. Such as, on the main page I would like to be able to show Teamspeak info, latest posts, latest pictures and downloads.
I've been looking at the MX-system which I was recommended, and this can do everything except the Teamspeak and I'm struggling to get the download to work.
Therefore, I've come to PHP Nuke. Firstly, what is the difference between this and Post Nuke?
I'm assuming that it's best for me to use version 7.6, and can anyone advise on the best modules/blocks for me to use. It would be great if the upload could show a progress as well, but I'm thinking this isn't possible.
Thanks in advance for your help

PHP-nuke is better

All the above are available at various resources as downloads.
Teamspeak block - Google for it - there are plenty about
Latest Posts - block comes with Nuke
Latest Pictures - depends on which Gallery system you install - Coppermine is very good and comes with a "latest pictures" block - make sure you get the Coppermine for Nuke though and not the standalone version
Downloads - there is an advanced downloads block right here in our download section.
There is also a different Downloads block / module available that allows user uploads. But bear in mind that uploads via http - which is slower than ftp - so ftp may well be the better option anyway.
No idea what the MX-System is so can't comment
Thankyou for the reply.
I've just downloaded block-downloadstats65.zip which showed up as Advanced Download Block, so I'm assuming this is the one.
Only problem with the FTP is that some of our guys aren't quite switched on so it would be nice just to have a simple button which they can click on and upload straight to my site.
Just installing 7.6 at the mo and having problems. 7.7 was fine, but I downgraded after reading the posts and now keep getting blank pages. Just uploading the files again
ok all installed and managed to get some blocks installed as well.
Is it possible for me to link the forum to my exisiting forum so I can test with this as well.
i.e my nuke home is http://stuart.coconia.net/html
and my forum is http://forum.simaviatorsuk.org
There is a standalone forum to Nuke port import script available.... which can import your own existing forum into the nuke one... have a search on the forums and you should bring up a few posts with a link to the import script.
just looked, all I could find was 'phpBB to PHP-Nuke NukeSQL'. This didn't seem to do the trick as it never asked me where the existing one was.
Do I need to copy the phpBB files from the original host and upload to my test site along with an export of the db?

Just the database tables need to be located where the nuke tables are.
Thankyou, have sorted it now. I realised why it wasn't working was because when I installed nuke, I named the phpbb tables phpbbnew so I just renamed them in the sql import and it worked.
Just trying now to work out how to change the menu along the top (Home, Your Account, Downloads, Submit News, Topics, Top 10). I want to be able to put a forum button on there and a link to my coppermine gallery

Go to your themes directory (themes/themename) and try and find a file named either header.htm or header.php. If you cant find any of them, find theme.php. Download the file to your computer and search for the text on the top bar. Simply replace the current text and link with the ones you want. Although, in your case, you will have to find 6 links to go at the top as it will look strange with one missing.
This should work with all themes. Although some themes come with their own header editor.
I would try looking in a different file..... navbar.php
ok sorted that now thankyou, easy once you know how. I've edited the main page message block for some text that I wanted. Only thing is I think there were some codes in it for carriage returns that I deleted and the text has lost it's formatting.
I've put carriage returns in while editing from the module, but doesn't work, text is still one long block of text.
Got the url?
http://stuart.coconia.net/html
Thats because you have to use html linebreaks in Admin / Messages......
code to use:
Tip - use two of them.
Another Tip - remove that "TS" block on right - it looks crap. If its a Teamspeak block there are much better ones available.
There is also a dead image at the top of the page under the ad for 100webspace.com - http://www.openhost.us/ is where it points to....
guess those two items are a result of ad sponsored hosting? Paid hosting is much better option imho
ideal, think I'm almost there for now. Trying to find out where I change the link for 'Home'. It's pointing to stuart.coconia.net, whereas I want it to stuart.coconia.net/html and I want to put text next to the logo in the Header
Again, something simple I assume
Yeah having problems with the Teamspeak, I have another one I will try. Yes it is free hosting, but I'm just using as a test site before I move it to my main one
