Is phpNuke for me . . . ?

Hello everyone,

My name is Phil and some time back I decided to have a go at building a website for a charity organisation that I help out with.

Using some basic tools, phpBB2.x and Flashchat chat script I have managed to build quite a nice site and as this was my first attempt I learnt a heck of a lot. When I started I had no knowledge of php or MySQL but from the feedback of it's building membership I have had a lot of positive responses.

As with a lot of things we do for the first time if we could do them again then we would do some things differently and I think I'm now at the stage where I would like to start using a CMS and I'm sort of sold on the idea of using phpNuke however I have a few questions.

How does phpNuke fair regarding security? some impartial responses would be welcome as If I asked a PC head what he thought of Macs and visa versa we could all predict what the answers would be.

Also how much control do you have over design? With my old site I went into all parts of the site and made everything colour wise co-ordinate, using three colours all areas matched and the overall feel of the site was comfortable. I have seen a few CMS managed sites and to be quite frankly they look, well, sort of automated if you know what i mean.

I also need to be able to set this up alongside my existing site and work on it whilst that is still running, could this be achieved say with the new CMS version sitting inside a folder unseen by people until it is finished?

also I have a concern over the transfer of the existing phpBB2.x forum data base, will this move over correctly? please see here to see why I'm concerned.

If this post is in the wrong place then please accept my appologies as this is my first post.

all the best for now,

Scabby,.

Not bad at all... SENTINEL copes very well and any new 'vulnerabilities' are soon updated ready for download...

Me? Loads!! I design websites...

So long as you know what you are looking for and some php / html savvy then the world is your oyster!

Totally.... you keep it in its folder until you are ready and then on the chosen day you package old site up in a folder and unpack the Nuke site...

There is a download that will help you transfer the PHPBB over to Nuke... it's much of a muchness and can be hit and run... on the whole though I think people have had success...
