PHP-Nuke 8

Well - GNA UNited made an announcement that they had bought Nuke 8 and were allowing people to download it (available >here<) so I thought - OK lets have a look

Downloaded and extracted it and had a look at the readme.... First impressions - not too bad - he has finally included a webinstaller....

A database needs to be in place first though - but there is no requirement to edit the config.php file. As long as the details are input correctly into the webinstaller the file gets edited for you on the fly during the install process.

Installer is pretty good - taking you step by step through the process.

Not had a chance to look into it properly though BUT - the damned WYSIWYG editor is still in place... will look into wether any security is present later tonite - but may well just go and install Sentinel for good measure.

Test site can be seen >here<

Shows how often I go over there, didn't know it was done til I saw this. Laughing

I'm glad all the forum stuff is not so tight with the system, that's what I liked about the original phpbb port, it was a totally seperate module.

Don't be to happy about this crap.
I've tested around, and its terrible.

Oh, and the installer, got it working in 2nd instance... I thought I was installing Joomla.

But, I'm happy FB included the latest phpBB: 2.0.21. Uhm, sorry, he included 2.0.20, the almost latest one.

And, also posted on the dutch website:
regarding the release notes from 7.9:
PHP-Nuke.org Wrote: :

Hello Nukers! PHP-Nuke 7.9 Final version is out now and available from here. This version includes a new variables validation and filtering system more effective and more secure, potential security vulnerabilities generated from the wysiwyg editor has been fixed, BBtoNuke 2.0.17, added banned IP edit function, improved search module internals, quotes and double quotes are now supported on all parts of the system, wysiwyg editor can be totaly deactivated from config.php file, users groups fixes to properly load the members modules, several fixes in the advertising system and many more.

Also, there is already a road map for the future version 8.0. Since it's a totaly new branch I planned lot of new features for that version. A new and redesigned administration system, more functional, more easy to use and more organization over its sections, new reorganization of Downloads module, more use of CSS style and many new features that all you'll love for sure.

The work of coding for the next version 8.0 will start in a couple of weeks since it requires lot of design first since the urgent need of a new administration system is one of the priorities for that release. You can expect improvements on almost all modules.

There are few suggestions and ideas from users that are really insane and maybe few of them will be applied to version 8. Features that all you'll like and all us will have fun by using it.

Second priority is a reorganization of the displayed data. There are some parts of the system that are just a total mess and requires urgent attention.

A new set of CSS style classes will be created having in mind the customization of the entire system.

In resume, will be a very interesting version for all us. For now, version 7.9 offers a good approach to a more secure and stable system and gave the base to start adding new stuff.

Thanks for reading and have a nice nuke day!

VERY INTERESTING???

Well, now compare it to the release notes of 8.0:

PHP-Nuke.org Wrote: :

Hi nukers! Well... the wait is over. PHP-Nuke 8.0 is now released. It includes several improvements, many cosmetic changes, several minor bugs fixed, complete separation of all BBtoNuke modules from the core system and many more.
I wanted this version to have the planned Metatags management and the new forums, but to be honest I lost almost a complete year moving from Venezuela to Colombia with my family. Since now we're established in our new home, I can resume my normal life and work.
Version 8.0 is very stable and is starting to have a new and nice look with more organization of the site's content and sections.

Now, in the next few days I'll start working with the next version. I think that if the community can wait a few months, the new forums can be made, but this is something that I'll evaluate in the next days. That module is a very BIG work and should be made with care.

Meanwhile, enjoy this work and if you have suggestions, ideas or any fix for a bug you find, feel free to contact me by email.

Have a nice nuke day!

Hmmm.
8.1 will bring us a Metatag management and new forums.

I'm looking forward Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil Confused

Thats where I was looking for. Yes, I understand he did need almost a year to create this function...
But, finally we got it.

Oh believe me - it aint gonna be lasting long.... not overly impressed by it to be honest.

Yep, I was about to post "So, where's this new admin system then?".

I'm not exactly impressed by it either. These "cosmetic" changes don't seem to be that much of a difference at all. I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 7.x site and an 8.x site. Although it was good putting in a web installer, it was completely ripped off from Joomla, right down to the design and graphics. He's even left in the Joomla function prefixes in (mosFunction_name).

Hmmm, I sometimes get "Sorry, too many page loads in so little time!" when viewing a page. Very likely considering I'm the only one using the site. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, we'll just have to see if security has been considered in regards to the WYSIWYG editor. Editors can be very useful if implemented properly.

Iv'e just uploaded it.. and it was the simplest version iv'e seen! (and over the weekend iv'e seen a couple!).

Problem is the first thing i tried to do was setup the forums. And all i get is the Sorry, too many page loads in so little time continually?........ do these people that put these things together actually install them and try them out?

No doubt it's a lot easier to install. But it's still practically the same as the last few versions. Also, it looks like "Sorry, too many page loads in so little time!" is a thing that is going to crop up frequently in these forums as it obviously wasn't tested properly before release.

Nope.

There is allready a XSS exploit. I''ve tested it, and it works. So, don't use it.

About the forums:
This is what I got last weekend:

Code: :

phpBB : Critical Error

Error doing DB query userdata row fetch

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1146 Table 'nuke80.sessions_keys_table' doesn't exist

SELECT u.* FROM nuke_users u, SESSIONS_KEYS_TABLE k WHERE u.user_id = 63 AND u.user_active = 1 AND k.user_id = u.user_id AND k.key_id = '4a6629303c679cfa6a5a81433743e52c'

Indeed, the table doesn't excist.
And, what does this mean: u.user_id = 63

So do I need to change the image on front page from 7.9 to 8.0 LOL Laughing

I would change it to 9.0. Just incase he will release some new old crap next week. Very Happy Laughing

Seriously, I'm joking this new version but it is really BS. You know, if there is new software released, I;m expecting something new. In this version I've only found new bugs and this:

Any news on the, too many page views bug? <--- I guess Nuke just hates me Razz

I hope you don't really expected we'd taken time to look into this problem. As this is another crap version, you can't count on my support.

You werent seriously trying to use 8.0?

If you cant get an older version to work you'll have no luck with a newer one.

Emmm, no. Confused

That's 1 of the reasons support stopped here at 7.6.

These versions are just the pits.
