I will upgrade this time....
Hi guys n gals...
Running nuke 6.9 with Sentinel plus a few other tweaks. I asked a while back about bundled packages, and the general consensus was to go for maybe Ravennuke based on nuke 7.6. I've had a quick browse through their forums.
It scares me.
There's no real list of what's in, what's not, documentation isn't THAT thorough enough for me to take that on (and my Db size is too big for anyone to take on!)
So, I need to crack on.
any suggestions?
I'm thinking to go for the standard nuke 7.6 for now, throw sentinel on it. then add the few tweaks I had. (Mainly the news pages hack, IPTracking, Gallery (which went oddly tits up) etc.
I've got the upgrade scripts from Chatserve's site.
The Db is that big- I can optimise it- but trying to do a backup from either nuke admin or phpmyadmin and it kinda goes no where. There's a database backup that's about a month/ 6 weeks old, so not too fussed if I lose a few thousand posts
So. My question is- is this the sequence I need to follow?
1. backup Db (if possible) (biggest table?- nuke_nsnst_tracked_ips 204301.348 Kb)- I think that's for Sentinel?
2. Upload new files (nuke 7.6 basic/ patched by chatserve)
3. run upgrade script (from 6.9 to 7.6 from Chatserve's site)
4. Test basics work
5. Upgrade Sentinel
6 further testing....
7. launch site again.
The site will only have ONE theme, so I've downloaded the patch that resets everyone's theme to the same one.
Any suggestions? Do I need to drop the nuke tables first? I'll change my config file so that it's not possible to run nuke as such until Sentinel is installed, if possible. (I know how quick the sneaky buggers can get in)
I'm bricking it....
Cheers
Andy
no response?
I'm at the point now where I need to know the following:
7.6 is uploaded, minus completed config file.
latest Sentinel is uploaded.
I have chatserves script for migrating from 6.9 to 7.6
which order do i do this?
Complete the config file, run chatserves script then re-install Sentinel?
I'm thinking of flushing the sentinel tables out of the database, so i don't get any issues down the line.
The other modifications I can add after, once I know the migration is ok.
any suggestions/ comments appreciated!
Sorry fella, aint been on for a few days.
Right, forget the bog standard 7.6, firstly it only comes with phpbb 2.0.10 so you'll still need to do lots of upgrading.
Next, 7.6 doesn't come patched so you'll need to do that, the latest patch levels also contain recent phpbb versions, my advice is to use the recommended 7.6 patched version (Nukescripts 7.6 with newest patch)from the link on the front page here.
Once you've got that up and going re-install sentinel.
The version I got, if memory serves, was the patched one by Chatserve- that ok? (Think it's from nuke fixes)
Sorry if I sounded impatient... usually you guys are pretty damned good...
I'll possibly try to get it running tonight, for all of 2 minutes, then diemantle the config screen to keep the hackers out while I get Sentinel running..
cheers for the feedback

god this is a slow process when trying to multitask with life... lol.
ok. we're still testing/ sorting crap out (lol)
One thing we've noticed: forum admin- claims using version phpBB 2.0.17. but version phpBB 2.0.21 is available. Are there any specifics I need to watch for? As in, how tied in to the phpBB port is it? (v2.0.7 based on Tom Nitzschner's phpbb port 2.0.6 upgraded to phpBB 2.0.7 standalone.) Is it compatible with nuke, just overwrite the files? Or do I need for something magical to be released by the likes of chatserv?
Also, the user groups- we used it to add a moderator group in the nuke admin. This is now full of something with scores or points or similar? I've managed to delete the group in the forum admin- is there something/ way around this? NSN groups? (I'm interested in what that feature has, btw, if someone can put it into a nutshell)
Cheers!

Sorry, you've lost me here with what you're actually asking.
and the same thing with the following points.

No you didn't, you'd goto forums admin, Group Admin and add them there, the groups thing in nuke admin has nothing to do with the forum and is just some basically stupid addon put in at 7.0
I'll try again (I'm mega tired- sorry!)

Near the bottom of the main page I get:

I guess my question is:
is there any upgrades available? If so, where's the best place to get them?
Now on 7.6 with Nuke upgraded and adding in a few choice mods.. (I'll be asking about these later when they don't work with the new version- like my signature file
)
Thanks!
Ah the joy of nuke, hardcoded crap in the forum footer.
The version number is correct in forum admin section, Version Information, so it's 2.0.17
Anyway, see http://phpnuke-uk.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5612
2 days off work ill in bed... I'm all refreshed now
Right- problem I have is that nuke resources.com is giving me 500 server errors..... regardless of which links I try (or just going directly to their site)
Any "mirrors" anywhere?
I'm keeping everything in one thread here- sorry if I'm wrong for doing this- figured it may help some other people along the way...

OK, this is where it was always kinda screwed- for me- even before.
I go to forums admin- gives me 2 options for groups:
Groups Management
Group Permissions.
If I then go into either, there are no options to add new users to the group- or delete existing users?
I know how to add one- now I've played with it- but it's not exactly clear! (Removing someone could be a whole new can of worms!)
Is there an alternative? ie. am I now looking into NSNGroups as an alternative? (Is this where you tell me I was better off biting the bullit and going for Raven's bundled effort?)
If going for the bundled effort, not a problem... I think

That's normal, you need to add users via the normal forum usergroup page from the link in forum header.
Just find the group and there are options to add a new user or select existing users for removal.

Only thing I can suggest regards nukeresources is just keep trying.
I've been using nuke now for at least three years and don't know the basics, lol...
How cocked up is that?
I've been trying to find how to add/ remove etc user groups in the admin panel- not thinking it would be part of the main forum header
Ta!
Ok- thanks. Managed to grab the patched files for the forums.
Is there a newer version of the bbtonuke port? the one I'm running comes back as
Code: :
phpBB port v2.0.7 based on Tom Nitzschner's phpbb port 2.0.6 upgraded to phpBB 2.0.7 standalone.
ALSO:
I've got the fixtheme.php file- but that only does individual users- is there any quick way to convert EVERY user to the same theme? (I'm removing ALL themes except deepblue- then I'll replace deepblue with one that I'll hack myself)
cheers!
Andy
C'mon fella I answered this up there ^^^^^^
But your post confuses me, you say you've patched the forums and then ask for the same thing???

The only fixtheme.php I know of fixes a broken site, does nothing regards users selections.
Just run
Code: :
UPDATE nuke_users SET theme = "THEME-NAME-HERE" ;
