Slow Loading Site

Hi Guys,

My site has gone on a go slow, taking up to 2 minutes to load a page. Every now and then though, it works fine.

My first thoughts was there was a problem at the host end, but according to them it's not.

Thank you for contacting us.
I apologize if there is no resolution on the server side.
As mentioned earlier, your website is on a shared hosting environment with plenty of people accessing at the same time plus it is database driven which adds up to the traffic generated. If optimizing the scripts will not give a significant change in the speed, it would be better if you are hosted on a dedicated server.

My response.

This shared hosting plan worked fine until around 23rd August.
So basically, you're telling me that even though I'm using aprox 3% of my allowable bandwith, 4.5% of total database allowance, 6.75% of storage space, 16.25% of files, 0.9% of mailboxes, and I have 1479 available sub domains, the hosting package I was sold is no good. I'm no web techie, don't know how to optimize scripts. But you're telling me the only cure is to pay even more for a dedicated server.
That doesn't help at all because I can't afford the starting price of a dedicated server.
I've knocked up some websites for 3 pool leagues, 1 kids football league and a few team sites. I use a fraction of available facilities on the package I was sold. Had the percentages been in the 70's, perhaps I would accept that there was too much usage.

We do apologize for the inconvenience that this is causing you. I checked the servers and it is running fine. Our servers is running on a 100mb connection speed. As mentioned by the previous agent for your site to work or pull up faster you will have to check the scripts of the sites specially since you are using an open source software. It is very probable that there is redundancy in your scripts which is causing the slow connestion. You also mentioned that you are not that techie you can however asked a friend maybe that is knowledgeable enough. That would be the best option that you have.

The host is 1and1. Can anyone please give me some ideas with this. Is the host giving me a load of BS?

This is the link to my site

Remind us of your URL please...

Sorry I thought the link would be OK

Embarassed

Missed that... sorry!!!!

Checking.....

Wasn't overly slow....

Try optimizing the DB - Admin - Optimize database... see if that makes any difference..

It MAY have something to do with the java menu block thats there....

This time the page loaded in seconds... 2 seconds at most...

Optimized the DB, getting times between 10 and 49 seconds atm.

Hhhmmm... VERY strange..... 3 seconds that time and page was fully loaded....

Its the same on one of the other sites.

As it is happening on multiple sites on same host kinda points to summat with the PHP / MySQL settings with the host really....

Initial look as 16 seconds.... close and reopen browser to your secoind link

Page Generation: 4.047 Seconds

Might be wise to set the Your Account module of that second link to all users... itherwise people won't be able to register as per the not on the front page..... Confused

Both sites load for me initially around 15 secs, then on reload around 4-5 secs, I'm on a measly 256k ADSL.

the weston site seemed a bit slower to me. there's not really enough pictures on the page to blame it on that though.

Both sites loaded instantly for me RebelT.
Strange tho, my site sometimes decides to take maybe 30 sec to load up and I too am with 1 and 1.
Maybe it has something to do with the site owners' puter..just a thought.

BTW I also do pool www.northeast8ball.co.uk

Nice site Very Happy

Gotta be serverside. I've had the shared hosting/bad scripting excuses.

As Dirk said earlier, likely to be their PHP / MySQL settings, as it was fine until the end of August. Mad

Probably time to change host.
