Upgrading Nuke Forums easy?
Hi all
Before I get a barrage of 'search the forums' I have done so. I am aware that this topic is covered many times on various posts, but this is one upgrade that I'm really unsure of. Not least because I tried it once before and it broke my entire site. So apologies in advance, but I really need assurance that I'm doing this right.
I have Nuke 7.6 patched to 3.3
I am using the forums that came with this installation.
This is what it says on the forums admin:
Your installation does not seem to be up to date. Updates are available for your version of phpBB, please visit http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php to obtain the latest version.
The latest available version is phpBB 2.0.21.You are running phpBB 2.0.17.
Could someone please point me to where I need to go to upgrade this please?I get a bit confused about the normal PHPBB and NukeBB?
Really sorry for the frequently asked post, but I really don't want to mess up the site I've been building over the last couple of weeks as it's almost ready to go live.
Thanks in advance

Thanks Dar, I'll give that a try.
And again, really sorry for posting an FAQ, but I appreciate the confirmation.
Man, you hand fed me this and I still think I did something wrong.
What I THINK I've done, is that I used 17-18 Unpatched even though I'm using Nuke 7.6 3.3. I didn't realise what I did, until after I'd applied it, but from there on in I used the patched files all the way up to 21.
I'm coming across a couple of issues though, which may be a result of my stupidity.
When trying to add smilies in forum admin, the smilies are showing up as red crosses, and when i check the properties for them it says "modules/Forums/images/modules/Forums/images/smiles" which is obviously wrong. For some reason it expects the folders to be nested
Also, I get weird behaviour whereby a number of forums will be highlighted as having new posts, but as soon as I read one post the rest are no longer illuminated, so I don't know where the other new posts are without going through the scroller one by one.
So, my question is this - Would I have screwed something up by running the unpatched version of 17-18?
If so, would I be able to rollback?
I've got users using the forum now, so I can't roll back my database, although I took a snapshot of the modules/Forum* directory so I've got all the files.
Any advice on this would be really appreciated.
Thanks guys
Would there be anything wrong with me ripping out the Forums and Private Messages module folders and adding them again from the patched Nuke download, and then adding the forum update file sequentially?
Thanks guys
Hi Guys
I posted over at PHPBB and they said that they can't help me because it's a Nuke port. I thought I would try at Nukecops.com but they haven't replied either. Here's the post that I made, which highlights my problems in detail in case anyone can help me.

Hi guys
I'm new to setting up forums and such, so apologies for what probably seems like an easy question. Also, sorry if this is posted in the wrong area, so please feel free to move it if needs be.
I have setup up a PHP Nuke site, 7.6 (3.3 patched) to be exact. I noticed that the boards were version .17, so I wanted to upgrade to the latest version. This is where I think I've gone wrong.
There are NukeBB upgrade files which I found, that need to be done sequentially (as I know from experience that you can't use the standard PHPBB files). However, there are patched versions for the patched versions of Nuke, and there are Unpatched versions for patched versions such as mine.
What I believe I have done is downloaded the UNpatched version of 17-18 by mistake, and then continued up to 21 with the patched versions. Now that you know HOW I got here, I'll tell you the problems I'm having:
1) Private Message Icon is not showing up next to "Private Messages" in the modules block.
2) New post notification is very strange. When I go into the forums, several forums will be highlighted, showing me that there are new posts. Once I open a post and then go back to the forums, the other posts that are new are no longer 'lit up' so I don't know which other posts to read. When moving around, new posts should stay flagged as such until I read them or close the browser surely?
3) Smilies in ACP. When I got to the smilies section on the ACP, the existing smilies show up as missing files with the red X. When I right click them and go to properties, it says that the path it's trying to get the image from is:
modules/Forums/images/modules/Forums/images/smiles
I don't know why it's nesting the file structure, in the ACP, but the smilies work perfectly well when posting in the forums. The above file structure does NOT exist on my server, it is simply modules/Forums/images/smiles.
4) Lastly, colors in posts. I am able to highlight an area of text and then select, say, yellow to change the selected text to yellow. However, yellow remains selected in the color selection box. If I then highlight another area of text and select yellow, it won't work, because yellow is already selected in the box. If I choose another color, it works fine because the selection has changed and the color chooser only seems to work when the color changes. I have just tested changing color on this post, and after I chose a color, the font color box retained 'Default' in the box. That is what's not happening with my board.
Those are my issues, and if there is a way to do this cleanly, it would probably be easist for me to delete my files and start from scratch. I can't start from scratch where the database is concerned as the forums are active.
Any help with this will be very very very much appreciated!
Many thanks in advance

This is the only area that my site isn't working at the moment, and I'm pulling my hair out with it
. If anyone can help me, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks all
Mal
1 And why would an icon show next to the private message link?
2 What are the cookie settings in forum admin, configuration?
3 What is the smiley path in forum admin, configuration?
4 Cant comment on this without taking a look at the problem first hand, got a link?
1 - You know the little animated envelope icon? Maybe they don't use it anymore.
2 - I read on one of the other posts on this site that these should be customised, so I have changed them from what they were. I don't know what they were though.
Cookie Domain: http://www.kohcenter.com
Cookie Name: phpbbkohcenter
Cookie Path: /
3 - modules/Forums/images/smiles
4 - Sure thing - www.kohcenter.com
Thanks very much Dar
1 It's never existed in the modules block, it may have existed in a non standard menu but never in the default modules block. It does exist in the default nuke userinfo block though.
2 Try

3 and 4 This could possibly be a theme issue, try with the default subsilver and see if it still happens.
Thanks Dar, I appreciate your help.
I've stripped out the cookies config as suggested.
I've tried using SubSilver, but the problems persist, even the color change one.
Any other ideas?
I cleared all my cookies and TIF's and I think you've sorted the problem with posts not showing as new! I only did a quick test with two posts, but I think it worked! I'll continue to test over the next 30 minutes or so as people post and see how it goes.
Thanks Darren, I really appreciate the help.
Well I'm so convinced that the colour change is a theme issue that I can't really suggest anything else.
OK, I'll change it over again now and see if it is.
Thanks
Ian
How are changing it? I see no other themes listed in your account on your site to change to?
I renamed the <custom theme>/Forums directory to Forums2 to get the SubSilver theme back, and the problem is still there. Is that a sufficient test, or do I need to do anything else?
Thanks
Ian
