Creating custom forum theme

Hey guys

I have created a new Nuke theme, but I am having problems getting the colours of the forums changed. I am able to change the icons by adding them to <themename>/forums/images but I am having problems changing the default blue and white colours etc, despite having a look in all the CSS files etc.

Can someone please let me know where to change this, or what file I need to add in order to control the forum theme.

Thanks guys
Mal

What forum theme are you playing with? the default subsilver?

Anyway, quite often all the css files contents are duplicated in the overall_header.tpl and simple_header.tpl within the <themename>/forums dir, try there.

Thanks Darren, I found the files but am still confused lol Laughing

I have copied the SubSilver folder over into my theme root, and have called it 'forums'. I have tried posting the code from simple_header.tpl a couple of times, but sentinel keeps blocking me, so I think it's because of the JS in the code.

So, are reference such as the ones below what I need to change?

Code: :
 /* General page style. The scroll bar colours only visible in IE5.5+ */
body {
   background-color: {T_BODY_BGCOLOR};
   scrollbar-face-color: {T_TR_COLOR2};
   scrollbar-highlight-color: {T_TD_COLOR2};
   scrollbar-shadow-color: {T_TR_COLOR2};
   scrollbar-3dlight-color: {T_TR_COLOR3};
   scrollbar-arrow-color:  {T_BODY_LINK};
   scrollbar-track-color: {T_TR_COLOR1};
   scrollbar-darkshadow-color: {T_TH_COLOR1};
}

Code: :
link rel="stylesheet" href="modules/Forums/templates/subSilver/{T_HEAD_STYLESHEET}" type="text/css"

I don't know where things such as "T_BODY_BGCOLOR" are set, so I don't know how to change those values.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mal

If you're going to be fiddling with subsilver you're better off using the 1 that comes with the deepblue theme because the moving the 1 from the forums/templates dir will have incorrect paths to be used under <themename>/forums

To be honest if I was in your situation I'd go looking for an existing theme that is similar to what you are looking for and play around with that until it's too your liking.

I hear ya, and I'm tempted, but I'm the kinda person that likes to know exactly how something works so I can make it exactly how I want and make any changes that I want Very Happy

I've taken your advice and copied across the "forums" folder from DeepBlue, and changed the paths to my theme folder. I have found that the forums.cfg file contains the paths for the images, but I cannot find out where to change forum fonts / colours / backgrounds etc.

If nobody knows, does anyone know where I could find a tutorial on modifying a theme? I've checked the NUKE HOWTO on your site, but there's nothing in there about editing a forum theme.

Thanks guys

Not sure what copy of the deepblue theme/forums you have but my forums.css file clearly shows all the correct stuff to change what you want to change.

Just replace the css entries in the overall_header with that and edit away.
