Pricing a Nuke site

I've recently had some interest in a Nuke based website I built essentially for my own use http://tcaat.net. I'be been asked to quote a price for the site, some moddding and ongoing admin. To be honest, I've no idea what the going rate is for this kind thing is, my normal work is standard HTML/CSS sites and this will be the first Nuke job I've done.

Ok, so I know this is almost a 'how long is piece of string' question but what would be a reasonable quote based on the site as is? Any further mods and admin I'll charge out at my normal rates.

Thanks for your help

Chris

What do you plan to quote on then? Does someone else want to take over the site you linked? Or is it that someone wants one setting up?

Both Dar and myself charge the same for the setting up of a site from scratch which would include the DB backend, config the default Admin options, and making sure security (usually Sentinel) is also up and running.

I would usually also install any (1) custom theme that the customer had seen and would like, as well as up to 2 custom modules if they are standard and not too fiddly.

Personally I will not publish my rate on the public end of the Forum, pretty sure Dar won't either, but feel free to PM us if ya desperately want to know.

i'd be tempted to charge a set fee for setting it up, and maybe charge on a per-page for anything after that, as you probably would with a static website.

although the idea of having a set-fee for upkeep (enough to cover a set amount of pages per month and a retainer) could also be a good idea.

The full story is that I started studying accountancy part-time at the local FE college when the web business wasn't pulling in enough. I built a site for students to exchange news and information more as a real-world project to learn Nuke than with any thoughts of income from it. Last week I get an email from the head of department saying that they would be interested in having me develop it as a resource for staff and students to replace their current site (which is essentially Moodle). I've got some idea of their requirements and shouldn't require much more than a minor(ish) reworking of the site with maybe an extra module or two to get it up to requirements.

My inclination at the moment is for an initial set-up fee (largely for the work I've already done) with an ongoing support/maintence retainer. It's the market rate for the set-up is that I'd like a ballpark figure for.

did you pm the guys and get their ideas on pricing?

Well you cant charge them for the nuke site as it is GNU GPL.

You can only charge for work thet YOU have done.. ie: not just clicking the instal link.

I charge a set fee for install, custom design, and basic population.

Then if clients want me to admin their site eg: fiddle with it and add modules, articles etc ... then I charge a monthly retainer to keep me in their pockets.

You have to consider what YOU think this service is worth.

How many hours have you already spent on the current site, how many hours do you think you will spend on the proposed site... and ... how much info will the tax man want when you start all this?

Remember also that if someone is paying you for a service they expect you to be there to provide that service, also remember that an education authority will get a grant to build a website!

Good luck! Wink
