PHP-Nuke Newbie - Complete phpnuke newbie? want to ask a question before installing? or have installed and are now confused? this is the place.
users on ie cannot login
Hi
I set up a site at
www.connexion.me.uk
All was going well until a user said that everytime they tried to login they where taken to thier account page.
Upon further investigation it came to light that this was only happening to ie users, firefox user had no problem at all.
Another strange thing is that for some ie users if they used the url
http://connexion.me.uk instead of
http://www.connexion.me.uk they could login !!!
I dont think this problem effects ALL ie users either just some.... please if anyone has a fix for this please help

Probably because your real url is
http://ccgi.zeddy.plus.com/roze/html/
Nuke can't write the cookie with a masking url.
BTW, you're also using a version of nuke which is very insecure and is also not supported by most people, see this post.
http://phpnuke-uk.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=26050
yes i realised this when i just signed up.
So how come users using firefox can login without a problem?
Im new to php which why i am posting here. to try to get some help on this.
yes
http://ccgi.zeddy.plus.com/roze/html/ is where the site files are stored and my domain name
http://www.connexion.me.uk forwards there.
If it was nuke error surley it would generate the fault with all browsers?
You could also try telling IE users to except all cookies, that may work.
Internet options, tools, privacy.
I have been trwling the internet and i have found that i am not the only one with this problem, it seems to effecting alot of other php sites and users on ie , but i cant seem to find a fix anywhere.
I appreciate your help and patience

No it's not forwarding it's masking, anywhere you visit at
http://www.connexion.me.uk/ displays that masking the true url.
My only suggestion is what I posted above regards excepting all cookies.
yes when you type in www.connexion.me.uk you are web forwarded to http://ccgi.zeddy.plus.com/roze/html/
Is that a problem? what do you suggest i do?
I still dont understand how firefox has no problem while 'some' ie users do. I have tried getting the affected users to clear cache , accept all cookies etc and it would not work, it would just take them to thier account page.
strange if they typed (some users) http://connexion.me.uk (notice omitted www)they could login!
If they download and use firefox...no problems at all.
I am wondering if this is an internet explorer general problem, and as 80% of internet user use internet explorer i really would like to find out how to fix this problem server side.
It would not be expected to have to get users to mess around as most net users just wont be bothered.
Again any help is much appreciated.
When you visit connexion.me.uk you can ONLY see connexion.me.uk in the address bar no matter what page you visit on the site.
This is MASKING the real url of http://ccgi.zeddy.plus.com/roze/html/
In your domain name webforwarding set it to display the destination URL insted of MASKING it.
As to why firefox users are ok then perhaps Firefox users have their browser set to accept ALL cookies. Dunno havent used FF in years.
Im using IE7 and can access the site fine, but then I have my browser set to accept cookies.
Do plus.com not offer hosting?
I suggest you get your OWN hosting set up to connexion and all probs will be fixed.
Thanks for the advice
I set my domain via the control panel at 123reg to framed web forwarding. This hides the real url.
I am in the process of getting plusnet to actually host my domain name but they have advised me that i cannot then have the site in folder ie. it has to be in the root.
Ill let you know if this fixes the problem
