UK smoking ban
The uk smoking ban came into effect on July 1st, do you think this is yet another unbelievable human rights abuse by our government?

y'know. i had promised the wife, the kids, friends, everybody and his effing dog that i'd be off the fags by the time i was forty.
i had tried six months beforehand and lasted a fortnight. so i got a prescription for patches from the gp and decided to quit one week before my birthday. this coencided [sic] with the ban coming into effect in northern ireland (beginning of may).
now i've nothing against smoking. i enjoyed it. honestly. i chose not to smoke indoors unless it was a smoking-house and hated smokers in cafes/restaurants while i was eating (the after-a-meal ciggie is ofcourse the best one - unless it's somebody elses).
i'm still on the patches and will soon be on my last week. still feel like a ciggie, but we are talking about one craving every three or four days. had a day where i knew i'd be under stress and [i]allowed[i] myself a pack of ten. smoked nine, gave one away and haven't had one since.
i was a casual smoker. a pack of twenty would be found three months after i bought it with five missing. up until fifteen years ago of course, by that time i had started the 20-da-day habit.
when you quit, some of the stuff they tell you about smoking is true. some is exagerated. i just felt like a bloody slave to it.
I smoked from 16..... Gave up 4 years ago.
Smokers smell like poo to me now... I mean BAD kitty cat poop breath and awful ashtray clothing smell it is horrid...
Cant believe I spent all those years smelling like kitten shit and ashtrays!!
I'm a total convert... bring on the ban!!!
Dear All
Just back from a zoo visiting trip to Germany.
They have not enforced a smoking ban.
In fact most of the pubs and restaurants we used did not even have non smoking areas. Felt strange. Surprising how quickly our concept of 'the norm' can change.
Bizarrely 4 of the 5 non smoking signs we did notice where displayed upside down. Not sure if this was carelessness or some form of protest.
